Shelter Veterinarian – Charleston Animal Society
Charleston Animal Society, South Carolina’s largest animal shelter and a national leader in lifesaving work, is seeking a Shelter Veterinarian to join our team in beautiful Charleston, SC. For over 150 years, we’ve been saving lives through innovative, science-based programs including high-volume spay/neuter, community cat initiatives, humane education, and medical support for the most vulnerable animals.
Mentorship for new grads with a seasoned Veterinarian team of over 40 years of Shelter Health and Surgical experience!

Requirements
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Veterinary Officer, the Shelter Veterinarian leads medical operations for the Sam Greer Spay/Neuter Clinic and the Simon Greer Mobile Clinic. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries while maintaining exceptional standards of patient care, preventive health, and medical protocols. Responsibilities also include oversight of overall shelter animal health.
What We’re Looking For:
Strong surgical proficiency in HVHQ spay/neuter (or ability to become proficient)
Leadership, integrity, resilience, and a strong work ethic
Ability to work independently and guide clinic staff
Willingness to travel locally as needed
Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday, with occasional weekends or evenings.
